I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Psychology and I am a
Certified Mental Health Specialist. I have over 15 years of Personal
experience with individuals, and the families of individuals, that have Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder and Bi-polar Disorder. I also have experience
working with individuals with many other mood, anxiety and behavioral
disorders. My Professional experience includes the following positions;

  • Associate Staff, Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute. (MTMHI)
  • Mental Health Specialist, PACT Team of the Mental Health Coop (MHC)
immersed in the community of Nashville, TN
  • Crisis Counselor, Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) of Helen Ross McNabb
    in Knoxville TN
  • Counselor/Tech, In-Patient unit of Ridgeview Psychiatric Hospital in
    Oak Ridge TN

I was one of the first 25 Mental Health Peer Specialists to be 'Certified'  in
the state of Tennessee. I am currently pursuing Specialist Certification in
the state of Georgia.

In addition to my
BS in Social Psychology from Park University, and
certification by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and
Developmental Disabilities (TDMHDD), I am also certified by the Copeland
Center as a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) Instructor/Facilitator.
I have additional training through the American Red Cross, AmeriCorps
Vista and the University of Minnesota, School of Public Health, in Disaster
Mental Health. Please click on the "Certifications " button on the left for a
more comprehensive list of some of my training.)

My mission is to help my clients formulate and maintain individualized
Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAPs). I advocate for
clients/consumers and the Self Directed Care model endorsed by NAMI. I
also advocate for the implementation of the Recovery and Resiliency model
of Mental Health treatment. I have worked with local employers to help
them fill their employment needs with consumers that were stable and
wanting to work. I am familiar with and frequently use Motivational
Interviewing techniques. I have over 140 hours of additional training,
accredited and/or approved by organizations like the American Nurse’s
Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCCC), The Ohio
Counselor Board for Social Workers (CSWMFT), the National Board of
Certified Counselors (NBCC) and the Tennessee Department of Mental
Health and Developmental Disabilities (TDMHDD)

I feel that my eclectic combination of life experience and training gives me
a unique perspective on life. I am able to draw on these experiences and
skills to relate to those individuals needing some help with their issues so
they can become productive again or just get well enough for the first time
in their lives so they can try to live a more normal life.

The Recovery and Resiliency model works. It gives hope and self esteem
to those that need it most and that helps to reduce their recidivism and
over use of already taxed resources.
