Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
(PTSD)

PTSD stems from a traumatic event. A traumatic event is something horrible and
scary that a person sees or that happens to her/him directly.

During these types of events, the person believes that their life or others' lives are
in danger. They may feel afraid or feel that they have no control over what is
happening.

After a trauma or life threatening event it is common for people to have upsetting
interest in things they used to enjoy. For some people these reactions do not go
away on their own, or may even get worse over time.
